Young Leaders – Day Two / Deuxième Jour

On Day Two of the Franco-British Young Leaders Programme, Local Leaders joined the group which began with breakfast at No 10 Downing Street and a discussion with Stephen Parkinson, Political Secretary to the Prime Minister and a Young Leader from 2017.

Local Leaders were taken on a tour of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office whilst Young Leaders met with Baroness Hale, President of The Supreme Court, to discuss her role and her views.

The following meeting was with George Osborne, Editor of the London Evening Standard and former Chancellor of the Exchequer, to get his insight into current political developments.

Lambeth Palace was the venue for the next meeting with Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The afternoon ended with a session on volunteering opportunities in both countries with French charity, Pro Bono Lab, and British charity Reach Volunteering giving presentations on their work and ways to get involved in their projects.

In the evening, Young Leader and Local Leaders were joined by 125 guests for a fabulous Gala Dinner at the Guildhall hosted by The City of London Corporation.

The Gala Dinner began with a piano recital from Célimène Daudet, Young Leader in 2018, and concluded with a speech from Rory Stewart, the Secretary of State for International Development.

Les Local Leaders rejoignirent le reste du groupe au deuxième jour du séminaire qui débuta par un petit-déjeuner au n° 10 Downing Street suivi par une discussion avec Stephen Parkinson, secrétaire du Premier ministre et Young Leader 2017.

Une visite du ministère des Affaires étrangères et du Commonwealth fut ensuite proposée aux Local Leaders pendant que les Young Leaders eurent l’opportunité de rencontrer Baronness Hale, Présidente de la Cour suprême, qui échangea sur son rôle et ses opinions.

Le reste de la journée fut marqué par : une session d’échanges avec George Osborne, rédacteur en chef du London Evening Standard et ancien Chancellor of the Exchequer, au cours de laquelle il donna son point de vue sur les développements politiques actuels ainsi qu’une une rencontre spéciale avec Justin Welby, l’archevêque de Canterbury à Lambeth Palace. Le groupe assista enfin à une session de travail sur les opportunités de volontariat dans les deux pays par les associations française (Pro Bono Lab) et britannique (Reach Volunteering) qui présentèrent leurs travaux et comment s’impliquer dans leurs projets.

Dans la soirée, les Young Leaders et Local Leaders et 125 invités prestigieux furent conviés à un dîner de gala organisé par la City of London Corporation au Guildhall.

Le dîner de gala fut lancé par un récital de piano de Célimène Daudet, pianiste internationale et Young Leader 2018, et se clôtura par un discours de Rory Stewart, Secrétaire d’État au Développement international.
