On the first day of the Franco-British Young and Local Leaders 2022 Programme, Young and Local Leaders were welcomed at the Wellcome Trust by Gerrit van Rossum, Chargé d’affaires at the French Embassy.
The day continued with a visit to Parliament where the group met with The Rt Hon Stephan Crabb MP, Bim Afolami, Leo Docherty MP, and Alyn Smith MP, discussing bilateral relations, the work of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for France, Scotland-EU relations and Scotland’s deep ties with France.
Following the visit to Parliament, Young Leaders and Local Leaders were in discussion at the Institut français with Sir Alexander Younger, former head of MI6, reflecting on his experiences and on current topics. This was followed by a presentation of the Institut français and France’s external cultural actionby Bertrand Buchwalter, Cultural Counsellor to the French Ambassador and Director of the Institut français in the United Kingdom, and Dragoslav Zachariev, Deputy Director and Audiovisual Attaché.
The day ended with the Young Leaders and Local Leaders enjoying a fireside chat over dinner with Richard Hughes, Chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility.
La première journée du séminaire Young et Local Leaders 2022 débuta avec les Young and Local Leaders accueillis au Wellcome Trust par Gerrit van Rossum, Chargé d’affaires à l’Ambassade de France.
Une visite au Parlement a ensuite était effectuée où le groupe a rencontré les députés The Rt Hon Stephan Crabb, Bim Afolami, Leo Docherty et Alyn Smith, pour discuter des relations bilatérales, du travail du groupe parlementaire multipartite pour la France, les relations entre l’Ecosse et l’union européenne et les liens profonds de l’Ecosse avec la France.
Suite à la visite au Parlement, les Young et Local Leaders ont échangé à l’Institut français avec Sir Alexander Younger, ancien chef du MI6, sur ses expériences et sur des sujets d’actualité. S’en est suivi une présentation de l’Institut français et de l’action culturelle extérieure de la France par Bertrand Buchwalter, conseiller culturel auprès de l’ambassadeur de France et directeur de l’Institut français au Royaume-Uni, et Dragoslav Zachariev, directeur adjoint et attaché audiovisuel.
Les Young et Local Leaders ont terminé la journée avec une discussion informelle lors d’un dîner avec Richard Hughes, président du Bureau de la responsabilité budgétaire.
